Breizh Film Fund

Financial innovation serving cinema made in Brittany

In 2014, Le Groupe Ouest created the Breizh Film Fund to boost and stimulate independent cinema in Brittany. The Breizh Film Fund does not operate on the basis of a call for projects, but throughout the year prospects for film projects which are likely to be consistent with its strategy.

Relying on the creative strength of Breton entrepreneurs, the Breizh Film Fund provides new incentive in Brittany for independent cinema and the creation of fiction.

Brittany at the origin of a double innovation

The Breizh Film Fund is doubly innovative. In France it is the first endowment fund dedicated to supporting cinematographic creation. This is the first-time sponsorship funds are invested in the development, production or distribution of films. It is also the first privately funded film financing tool to be created beyond the Île-de-France region.

The choice of an endowment fund was made as part of a study carried out by Le Groupe Ouest with the support of the Brittany region and the Crédit Agricole du Finistère.

The films supported

A sentinel role

Breizh Film Fund’s development is based on an economic model that meets some of the many challenges in financing French cinema today. It is also relies on Le Groupe Ouest’s sentinel role in discovering powerful film projects by emerging filmmakers. Breizh Film Fund believes in supporting new talents, films written or set in Brittany, innovative styles of diffusion or creation, new filmmaking methods based on innovative technology, highly creative low budget films, collaborations between Brittany and the rest of the world.
