The Breizh Film Fund supported the production company from Rennes, Mille et Une Films, to produce Belgian Olivier Meys’ first feature film. “Bitter Flowers” focuses on the immigration of Chinese women who, tempted by possibilities in European, come in hope of finding the means to support their families back in China. They often end up in prostitution. In June 2016, the film received financial support from Eurimages.
The filming partially took place in Rennes at the end of September 2016.

Synopsis

Lina, is a chinese young mother and loving wife full of dreams. In order to bring an extra money to her household, she leaves her family and flies to Paris for a season of hard work. But on the streets of Belleville, the dreams are not are as bright as she expected, and she may have to sacrifice in a way she had never dreamt about…
