Melody

Bernard Bellefroid

Written in North Finistère, during the 2012 Annual Selection, shot mainly on the Crozon peninsula and post-produced in Rennes, “Melody”, Bernard Bellefroid’s second feature film, benefited from .Mille et Une. Films (Rennes) participation and also the backing of the Breizh Film Fund for its theatrical release in Brittany, an event which motivated national release.

Nothing predestined Bernard Bellefroid to come and work in Brittany. This Belgian writer-director was preparing his second feature film about the desire of two women, one French and one English, to have a child. One asking the other to bear her child. To consolidate his script, the writer chose to come to Le Groupe Ouest for coaching. Impressed by the Finisterian landscapes he made them the setting for his film.

He and his producers (Artemis Production, Belgium, and Liaisons Cinématographiques, Paris), met their associate co-producer in Rennes, .Mille et Une. Films, who took care of the post-production work. The result is an extremely moving film.

The Breizh Film Fund chose to back the project, to facilitate the distribution of the film in France by making an event of its release in Brittany. .Mille et Une. Films, in association with the distributor Damned Films, was therefore able to prove that a territory like Brittany, which has as many cinemas as French-speaking Belgium (about 200), can be the driving force behind a national release, highlighting regional talent.
