Lawrence Valin receives the Gan Foundation Award

"Little Jaffna" is one of the four award-winning projects receiving support for creation from the Gan Foundation for Cinema

For over 35 years, the Gan Foundation for Cinema, an essential patron of French cinema renowned as a mark of quality, awards each year four debut or second fiction feature films selected on their scripts. This year, “Little Jaffna“, the debut feature film by Lawrence Valin and produced by Ex Nihilo and Mean Streets, is one of the recipients.

Developed within Le Groupe Ouest during the Annual Selection in 2018, “Little Jaffna” immerses us in Paris in 2008, at the heart of a Tamil independence organization, following the journey of Michael Beaulieu. This young cop from the streets is designated by the DCRI (French central intelligence directorate) to infiltrate this milieu in order to take down one of its major financiers. However, as he delves into this community, Michael gradually finds himself identifying with those he is supposed to destroy.

Lawrence Valin took part in the Annual Selection alongside co-writers Malysone Bovorasmy and Marlène Poste.

An exciting update for the project as its filming starts in Paris on August 27, 2023. Best of luck to the entire team during the shoot!
