Synopsis

“Soudain” (Suddenly in French) is a hamlet located on the dizzying heights of a remote mountain. On a stormy night, its inhabitants saw Aimée arriving, their first teacher, republican and secular, who will stay for the winter to teach to a handful of children. Despite the mistrust she feels in the icy air, the young woman gradually blends into the life of the community, determined to enlighten their obscure beliefs. But the rituals and legends she discovers soon haunt her nights. As masses of snow cover the mountain, Aimée gets closer to Enoch and Pépin, two friends whose sensuality catches all her eyes. It is then that old Jupiter, dean of the village, dies. His coffin is fixed on the roof of the school, the ground being too frozen to bury it. While the atmosphere is in mourning, Aimée’s growing desire for the young men of the village suddenly engulfed her…
