Alfredo Covelli

Born in 1979, worked as an extra in his teen years and later on as assistant director in features and television productions, as well as second unit director for television programs.

He’s now a screenwriter: « La scuola è finita (School is over) » directed by Valerio Jalongo (Rome Film Festival 2010), « I Liceali » (2005) « I Liceali 2 » (2006) and « Piper, la serie » (tv series), and the movie « Studio Illegale » (2013) directed by Umberto Carteni and produced by Warner Brothers Italia.

In 2011 he directs his first short film, comedy « Nonna si deve asciugare (Grandma must get dry) » selected by 150 festivals in 30 countries. Broadcasted by Studio Universal in Italy, and Canal Plus in Africa and France.

In 2012 he visits Israel and Palestine, and tries to describe what he sees and feels, making few experimental short films: « Salmon », « Missing Parts » and « Love Letter, even if you treat me bad ».

His short films won few awards in the U.S., including Rhode Island International Film Festival, Nashville Film Festival and Golden Gate Award at San Francisco International Film Festival.

His first American film, short documentary « Ring People » shot while he was living in the Homeless community of Venice Beach, California, premiered in September 2013 in Russia. Best Documentary Short at Virginia Film Festival, USA.

« With real stars above my head » (2014) is his first long feature, shot in a retirement house for old Buddhist nuns, in the Himalayan region of Ladakh.

He runs the production company Meproducodasolo (a totally independent production company) and he’s producing independent films, directed by himself, and by new valiant and independent directors. Including Documentary « Off Road/Fuoristrada » directed by Elisa Amoruso (Special Mention, Documentary Competition, Rome Film Festival 2013) and short Doc « A new family » directed by Simone Manetti (BFI London Film Festival 2014, Camerimage 2014).

Dans le Bresciano, autour de la Fabrique d’armes de Beretta, les habitants du Val Trompia vivent en symbiose avec leur entreprise à l’histoire centenaire. Armuriers depuis des générations, ils exécutent un métier antique en garantissant une excellence italienne. Une ouvrière de vingt quatre ans, forte, orgueilleuse et totalement imperméable aux possibles revers de son métier, se trouve de manière inattendue à faire les comptes avec une souffrance inexorable remontée de son passé qui l’amènera à se confronter avec des sentiments nouveaux et les fantômes de son cœur d’enfant.
