The Rwandan film BEN’IMANA wins the Caméra d’Or!!
The whole Groupe Ouest team, hand in hand with the LIM² / Less is More team who supported the film’s writing, warmly congratulates Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo, the film’s writer and director. This film is of extraordinary beauty, intensity, subtlety, and absolute necessity in the context the world is going through today. Through this film, through the gentleness, mastery, and dizzying depth of Marie-Clémentine’s gaze, the women of Rwanda, the mothers of Rwanda, offer us a lesson in life beyond all hatred, beyond all these wars triggered by men who have lost their humanity.
Bravo to the Caméra d’Or jury for such a historic as well as deeply moving choice!
BEN’IMANA also wins the FIPRESCI Prize, awarded by the International Federation of Film Critics.
And SHANA, by Lila Pinell, wins the SACD Authors’ Favorite Award.
It was one of the highlights of the Directors’ Fortnight. In the landscape of emerging French cinema, SHANA is a rare gem, breathtaking in its singularity and humanity.
And of course, the acting awards for COWARD, by Lukas Dhont, allow us to celebrate the raw talent of a filmmaker whose time at Groupe Ouest was more than memorable, marked by humanity and flashes of brilliance.
