Raphaël Mathié
After graduating from the Strasbourg University Journalism Centre (CUEJ) in 1993, Raphaël Mathié worked in the national print media for around ten years before training in documentary filmmaking at the Varan workshops in Paris. He has since devoted himself to cinema as a writer-director.
In 2016, L’Île (The Island), which he developed at Groupe Ouest, was his first feature-length fiction film and his sixth film overall.

Claus, well into his forties, has taken refuge on an island after serving a prison sentence for a crime of passion. He has been scraping by there for several years now, almost forgetting why he came. But his encounter with Angela, a troubled and sensual young woman from the island, will turn everything upside-down. For Claus, it is the beginning of an incredible journey of discovery. Between madness, dreams and reality, he will have to fight his own demons and die in order to love.
