Omar Bekhaled

Omar Bekhaled has been acting for over twenty years. He trained at the International Workshop of Blanche Sallant and Paul Weaver in the late 1980s. In the early 1990s, he began working in television on series and one-off programs (6ème gauche, Antoine Rives, Moulin, P-J, Navarro, etc.) and also in cinema with Jean-Pierre Bisson, Karim Dridi, and a supporting role in Vivre au Paradis by Bourlem Guerdjou.

In 2001, he was cast in theater by Hans Peter Cloos for Richard III. The project was ambitious but ended prematurely, marking a turning point in his life.

Omar has long felt the desire to write. He retreated to the Queyras mountains and wrote eleven pages of a highly visual story titled L’Or Rouge (Red Gold). This journey has been enriching and inspiring, and Omar now seeks to assert his identity as both a director and screenwriter.

L’Or Rouge

Sélection Annuelle 2014

Nordine, 16, grows up in a state housing flat in the provinces. He dreams of doing something that will resonate with the memories of his Algerian childhood—something which will bring change, not only for himself but also for those around him. Among them are his parents and Nada’s father, a farmer’s daughter with whom he will fall in love. He eventually succeeds in drawing everyone into the whirlwind of his utopia, an alternative to the concrete that’s taking over the land: the cultivation of saffron, red gold.
