Martin Tronquart

After his studies in history and sociology, gaining a BAFA (a youth work qualification), and attending a circus school, Martin Tronquart began his career as assistant photographer to Hélène Biensa and Philippe Matsas. He also worked as a youth leader in holiday camps.

In 2003, he worked on Jean-Paul Salomé’s feature film Arsène Lupin, where he discovered the profession of props master. He continued on other features such as Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, Diastème’s Le Bruit des gens autour, and Pawel Pawlikowski’s La Femme du Vème.

At the same time, he wrote and directed short films, and acted in both cinema and theatre—particularly in Pin Up by François Gallou and in Pyramide by Copi, directed by Joséphine de Meaux.

In 2010, he ended his career as a props master to devote himself to writing and directing, while continuing to work with children.

In 2011, he met the production company Kidam which produced his short film Quatre colombes sur l’antenne télé, selected notably at the Toronto Worldwide Short Film Festival and the Trouville Festival, where it received a Special Jury Mention. In 2013, again with Kidam, he made his first medium-length film, Braconnière, co-written with Léa Pernollet and screend on Arte, featuring Lise Maussion and children.

In 2016, he was supported within Le Groupe Ouest’s Annual Selection, alongside Laura Piani, for the writing of his first feature film, Louves.

Louves

Sélection Annuelle 2016

Since their adolescence, Maria, Jen, Sophie and Ariane have formed a pack, a gang, a fortification against the world, and this keeps them going.
Maria is in hospital surrounded by her friends when the doctor tells them she has little time left to live. Maria wants to see her son, who lives in Italy.
Her friends are prepared to do anything to defy death and accompany Maria to the end.
On the road, they encounter wolves whose behaviour strangely echoes their own feelings. Maria’s death will shatter the fragile balance of their pack. Should they continue without her to Italy to find her son, or resume their lives? Is it still possible to move forward together when the pack loses one of its members?
