Joséphine Derobe

Joséphine Derobe is an author, artist, and director who explores sensory audiovisual territories through film, digital arts, stage, and virtual reality (VR). She has worked on several 3D VR projects, both fiction and documentary, including The Wedding at Cana VR from Arte’s Trips collection. She is the writer and director of the VR documentary Meet Mortaza, a project selected by the Venice Biennale’s College Cinema VR (2018) and winner of the Best Creative Digital Pitch at Sunny Side, as well as a recipient of the Brouillon d’un Rêve grant (2017).

For cinema, she wrote and directed two 3D short films that received numerous awards : Fridge Diary (2011) and Remember Me (2013) – both broadcast on France 3.

A 3D specialist for twelve years, she worked as a stereographer with Alain Derobe (inventor of the Natural Depth 3D method) and later directed stereoscopy on numerous feature films. Her notable collaborations include five 3D projects with Wim Wenders: Pina, Cathedrals of Culture (architecture series), Every Thing Will Be Fine, and The Beautiful Days of Aranjuez In France, she also worked on Minuscule and Asterix and Obelix : God Save Britannia.

Sélection Annuelle 2015

Tom Evol, a European neurologist, is a pioneer in technology for brain applications. With V.V., a recent Virtual Life program, he hopes to treat severe physical disabilities – such as his wife, who has been paralyzed after a stroke. Though unable to move in real life, Ema regains freedom through a virtual body in V.V., which gradually improves her state. After two years of unsteady progress, Ema wants to stop. But Tom will do all he can to save her.
