Ilias El Faris

Born in 1990 in Agadir, Ilias El Faris studied filmmaking at Paris VIII. He shot his first short film, Azayz, on Super 8, which won the Jury Prize at Doclisboa in 2016.
In 2017, he directed Roujoula in Casablanca, the city where he grew up. The film competed in the international competition at the Clermont-Ferrand Festival and won the Grand Prize for Short Film at Cinemed, as well as the Jury Prize and the Screenplay Prize at the Tangier National Film Festival.
In 2019, he shot Sukar on 16mm film on the beach in Casablanca. The film screened internationally and won a dozen awards, including the Jury Prize and the France TV Prize at the Champs-Élysées Film Festival, the Cervantes Award in Rome, and the Grand Prize at Dakar Court.
In 2021, he collaborated with director Hugo Mallon on Les Saisons de Maurice Pons (La Commune CDN).
At the same time, he has been developing his practice in film photography (National Museum of Rabat, Nuit de l’année, Arles 2025).
He is currently developing his first feature film.
