Guy Dessent

Guy Dessent is a Belgian-Uruguayan director and screenwriter. Born in Brussels, he moved to Uruguay at the age of seven. From a young age, he developed a keen interest in various forms of expression: music, visual arts, and writing. At eighteen, his passion for cinema brought him back to Belgium to begin his academic journey in directing at IAD. At the same time, he trained at Beatriz Flores Silva’s Acting and Directing Workshop.

In Uruguay, he developed and worked on various audiovisual projects. It was within the harsh reality of poverty in Montevideo’s excluded zones that he wrote and directed the short film Into which Box Should I Put You?, which won awards in Belgium, Spain, Mexico, Iran, and more. In 2011, he enrolled at HELB/INRACI to study image techniques. Drawing from personal experience, he wrote and directed his graduation film Spanish Level 1, in which he also played the lead role. The film was selected for several festivals including San Sebastian and received multiple awards.
