Frédéric Carpentier

After studying philosophy, Frédéric worked as a screenwriter (for directors such as Zonca, Téchiné…). He has lead filmmaking workshops in disadvantaged urban areas and trained actors for on-camera performance. He developed his own scripts and ventured into directing for cinema, television, and documentaries. His films are regularly selected at national and international festivals and have been broadcast multiple times (France 2, France 3, Canal+, Arte, TV5 Monde, etc.). Les Vagues, a feature film shot for Arte, is the first surf-themed film made in Europe. It achieved record viewership on its premiere and received the Marcel Jullian Prize and the Audiovisual Laurels for Best First Work.

His short film À cheval dans une maison vide won the Golden Palm at the Hyères Festival. The online film magazine KinoScript ranked it among the Top 10 short films of 2013. His short film Villégiatures is currently screening at numerous international festivals and is being broadcast on France 3. He is a double Fondation Beaumarchais laureate (cinema and television) and a double laureate of the CNC’s FAIA.

His first feature film, JEUNESSE SAUVAGE, was noticed in competition at festivals in Brussels, Saint-Jean-de- Luz and CINÉMED in Montpellier, and won the Prix Arthur Rimbaud du cinéma. It was released on June 22, 2020, the day of the first reopening of cinemas in the Covid period, to rave reviews from the press. On discovering his film, the management of the STUDIO M film school (ACFA Multimédia) asked Frédéric to teach screenwriting and film analysis.

His project MARÉE MONTANTE is currently being rewritten.
