Julie (35, white, wearing jeans and ballet flats) and Théo (39, black, with a boyish look) are a couple in crisis. To cope with the tragic loss of their baby, they move to Port Moresby, the dangerous capital of Papua New Guinea, where Théo, an architect, has agreed to oversee the construction of a tourist lodge in the jungle. Very quickly, Julie struggles with the expats’ insularity and the fact that she has to live with a local housekeeper who makes her very uncomfortable, the taciturn Silla (55). One day, Julie makes a serious mistake and asks Silla to help her fix it. She has no idea that she is about to upset the existing balance: soon the power dynamics are reversed, and fear takes hold of the group of expatriates.
