Séverine Vermersch

At 25, after studying at INSAS and growing up in Brussels alongside Eric Pauwels, Chantal Akerman, Jaco Van Dormael, and other kindred spirits, Séverine Vermersch began directing short fiction films—L’Histoire d’une autre and La Valise de Flora—as well as documentaries such as Qui voit Ouessant.

During a 15-year stopover in Paris, she supported several filmmakers in developing their fiction projects and also taught screenwriting in Beirut and Jakarta. Working as a script consultant for various production companies, she co-wrote Fais moi mal, a S&M comedy. Her passion for sharing the cinema she loves led her from the Sorbonne to La Fémis, where she created the Script Workshop.

Reaching an age of reason—and preferring the flow of the ocean to that of the city—she settled in Brittany. There, she directed several documentaries, including the recent Dans leurs yeux and La Bande du 2-9, broadcast on France 3 and Tébéo, and later screened in cinemas.

Convinced that every good story transcends the boundaries between reality and imagination, she continues to assist writers with both fiction and documentary projects.
