
Mehdi Fikri
A graduate from the École de Journalisme de Lille, Mehdi Fikri worked as a journalist from 2008 to 2018 for L’HUMANITÉ, where he was in charge of the police-justice column. He also wrote about politics, social struggles, and working-class neighbourhoods.
He later transitioned to screenwriting, working on the series HIPPOCRATE for Canal+, as well as MISKINA and OURIKA for Amazon.
In 2020, he directed the short film DESCENTE, which was selected for the Venice Film Festival. In 2023, he shot his first feature film, BEFORE THE FLAMES GO OUT (AVANT QUE LES FLAMMES NE S’ÉTEIGNENT), selected in TIFF’s 2023 Discovery Programme.
