Bohdan Piasecki

Bohdan Piasecki is a Polish poet based in Birmingham. A dedicated performer, he has presented his poems in a wide range of venues : from a pub backroom in Eastbourne to the main stage of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, from underground clubs in Tokyo to Parisian trams, from a bookstore in Beijing to an airfield in Germany, from niche podcasts to the airwaves of BBC Radio.

He enjoys both the creative chaos of large open-air festivals and the focused atmosphere of carefully curated literary events. In 2023, he received the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem: Performed, in the first edition of this category.

Bohdan founded Poland’s first poetry slam before moving to the UK, where he obtained a PhD in Translation. He served as Course Leader for the MA in Spoken Word in Education at Goldsmiths, and as Regional Producer for Apples and Snakes in the Midlands between 2010 and 2017. He is now a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham. He also works as a creative producer and sits on the board of the Poetry Translation Centre.
