Fatna, une femme nommée Rachid

Hélène Harder

Hélène Harder  took part in the Dramaturgy & Documentary workshop in 2019 of Groupe Ouest Développement, organised in partnership with Ty Films in Mellionnec (Central Brittany), for the development of her documentary film “Fatna, une femme nommée Rachid” (“Fatna, a woman named Rachid”).

Synopsis

At the wheel of her car, an elegant and mysterious 60-year-old woman takes us through the streets of Casablanca as she carries out her many activities as a human rights activist.

Through her journey, the fragmented story of Fatna El Bouih is revealed—former disappeared and political prisoner from the1970s Moroccan Marxist left movement. Now determined to pursue the dream of change, she is confronted with the resurgence of repression in Morocco, and with it comes the reawakening of her traumas and doubts.

Through the portrait of this Moroccan heroine, the film explores the role of women in a country’s history and the price they pay to enter the political sphere.
