Simon Serna

Simon was born in Paris, grew up in Sicily, and obtained a master’s degree in anthropology and cinema at Nanterre. He happily joined La Fémis, Screenwriting section, and graduated in 2018—alive. Sensitive to storytelling structure, he writes with both the rigour of dramatic construction and the honesty of personal experience. He has a special affinity for animation, genre, and Lacanian psychoanalysis. He enjoys hybrid forms, and is himself rather quirky. He also writes poetry. Short films adapted from his scripts have been broadcast on CANAL+ and ARTE, and have been selected and awarded at many international festivals (including Clermont-Ferrand, Villa Do Conde, Palm Springs, Curta Kinoforum São Paulo, Rhode Island International Festival, among others).

Passionate about teaching writing, Simon leads writing workshops in high schools and, since 2020, has mentored screenwriting students at La Fémis and L’École de la Cité.
