Rémi Allier

Rémi Allier is a French director and screenwriter. Born in Mâcon in 1988, he grew up in the vineyard-dotted countryside of Burgundy. After studying editing in Paris (BTS Jacques Prévert, Boulogne), he entered the directing program at IAD – the Institut des Arts de Diffusion in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. In 2012, he co-directed and co-wrote his first short film Jan with Pablo Munoz Gomez. The following year, he directed Zinneke, his graduation film, which had a strong international festival run after premiering at Locarno.

In 2017, he completed his first professional short film, Little Hands, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in the U.S. and went on to an impressive run, culminating in the 2019 César Award for Best Short Film.

Rémi currently lives in Brussels, where he primarily works, as well as in France. He is currently writing his debut feature film, When the World Ends, We’ll Be Rich, with a strong focus on youth and the world of childhood.

Nina, 10, is reluctantly swept up by her mother Lucie’s (28) “brilliant plan” which is supposed to make them rich. Taking advantage of a nuclear plant evacuation drill in their area, they go on a looting spree in the local shops. Nina, who had hoped this would raise her esteem in her mother’s eyes, soon finds their bond threatened by Sam (32), a young police officer investigating the case. He also is determined to win Lucie’s heart. Nina will do everything she can to regain her mother’s love and drive Sam away.
