Lukas Dhont

Lukas Dhont was born in Ghent and graduated from the KASK School of Arts. His short films Lost Body (Corps perdu) and Infinity (L’Infini) have won several awards. During his studies, Lukas mainly focused on fiction but also explored the full range of documentary possibilities.

In 2016, Lukas was selected for the Cinéfondation Residence at Cannes to develop the script for his first feature film, Girl. The film closely explores a number of themes Lukas had already been drawn to such as dance, transformation, and identity. He frequently collaborates with choreographer and dancer Jan Martens, with whom he created the performance The Common People. Premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 in the official Un Certain Regard section, Girl won the Caméra d’Or for Best First Film.

Lukas was supported by the Groupe Ouest in developing his second feature film, Close, which he co-wrote with Angelo Tijssens.
