Konstantinos Antonopoulos

Konstantinos Antonopoulos is a filmmaker based in Athens, Greece. His latest short film, “Postcards From The End Of The World” (2019), is currently circulating at festivals. It has won the Audience Award at the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, the Best Director Award at the Athens International Film Festival, an Honorable Mention at Minimallen SFF, and a Special Jury Mention at FIFF Namur.

He completed his MFA in Film Directing from Columbia University in New York, supported by the Onassis Foundation scholarship. While in the United States, he directed several short films, including the award-winning “Without Glasses” (2009) and “Lea” (2013). After returning to Athens, he co-wrote the feature film “Symptom” (which premiered at the Torino Film Festival in 2015), edited the film “My First Kiss and the People Involved” (which premiered at the L.A. Film Festival in 2016), and directed several documentary series for television and the web. He is an alumnus of Berlinale Talents, Torino Film Lab, and the Cine Link program of the Sarajevo Film Festival. In 2019, he received the SNF Artist Fellowship Award. He also teaches film at the Onassis Cultural Centre.

The Aegean Sea, 703 AD. Two shipwrecked convicts, locked in wooden stocks, wash up on a desert island. The first, Zaharias, is a naive, cross-eyed beekeeper, accused of heresy by a neighbour who fancies his wife. The second, Justinian II, is a former Byzantine emperor, dethroned, humiliated, and mutilated: his nose has been cut off. Together a humble man and a fallen god, both betrayed and lost, await their death. But their encounter sparks hope: Zaharias dreams of winning back his wife, while Justinian imagines reclaiming his throne. Together, they attempt to reach the mainland, but the island seems determined to test them. To prove they deserve a second chance, they become both mentors and rivals, each confronting his own flaws…
