Captcha

Cross Channel Film Lab 2015

Co-written with Rob Yescombe and Laura Deeley

The story is inspired by the myth of Cupid and the concept of guided and controlled love. What if love could be used as a weapon? A concept we have dubbed “spiked”.

The short film is set in a futuristic version of 1940s London. It features a long-term spiked victim who, after an injury, sees his implant fail. The spy who spiked him has meanwhile fallen in love with him for real. She chooses to betray her mission and save her lover. But he discovers the truth about this manipulation. Will he be able to forgive her, or even love her again? Can they actually free themselves from what has happened? Does fate still play a role when such manipulation affects a feeling as powerful as true love? Can true love be reduced to a simple chemical reaction, or is there a force beyond our understanding? Can they tell the difference between real emotions and those artificially created?
