Daniel Soares is a Portuguese director and screenwriter, born in Germany.
His short films have been selected by prestigious festivals such as Telluride, Locarno, Clermont-Ferrand, Hong Kong IFF, and Shanghai IFF. He has received numerous awards, including the Grand Jury Prize at Premiers Plans d’Angers, Best National Short Film at IndieLisboa, and Best International Short Film at the Zagreb Film Festival. His latest short, Bad for a Moment, produced by O Som e a Fúria, is set for release in 2024. He is currently developing his first feature film, 900 Toneladas, with financial support from the Instituto do Cinema e Audiovisual (ICA).

Despite financial struggles after becoming a father, Sandro (30), a garbage collector in Lisbon, continues to drive a luxury sports car. His partner, Cléo, wants them to leave Portugal in search of a more dignified life. Sandro promises to sell the car—but can’t bring himself to do it. In order to keep it, he begins to sell himself : first by cutting and selling his long hair, then by becoming a test subject for pharmaceutical trials. He sacrifices his body to finance an object that grants him visibility. But the more he clings to the illusion of social status, the more invisible he becomes to the world around him…
