Les Innocentes
Sélection Annuelle 2011
Poland, December 1945.
Mathilde Beaulieu, a young Red Cross medical intern assigned to caring for French survivors before their repatriation, is summoned for help by a Polish nun.
Initially reluctant, Mathilde agrees to follow her to her convent, where thirty Benedictine sisters live cut off from the world. She discovers that several of them, having become pregnant under tragic circumstances, are about to give birth.
Little by little, complex bonds form between Mathilde—an atheist and a rationalist—and the nuns, devoted to the rules of their calling. These bonds grow tighter in the face of danger…
Together, they will find their way back to life.
