Azedine Kasri
Born in the Ardennes, Azedine Kasri is originally from Béjaïa, Algeria and trained as a banker. In 2010, he enrolled in the Actor’s Laboratory, created and directed by Hélène Zidi. A few months later, he gave up his career as a banker.
In 2011, behind the scenes of I Love Techno, he was offered an audition for Kim Chapiron’s feature film La crème de la crème. This was his first film role. He then collaborated with Sylvie Ohayon, Philippe Lacheau, Louis-Julien Petit, FGKO, and others.
Frustrated with clichéd roles, he moved into directing with a self-produced short film in 2017, 507 heures. Inspired by this experience, he joined the Fémis residency programme that same year. His graduation short film Timoura was selected for more than 50 festivals and won ten awards.
In 2019, he won an acting award at the Jean Carmet Festival for his performance in Damien Salama’s Turn Over.
In 2022, Azedine shot his short film Boussa in Algeria, produced by Bien ou Bien Productions and co-written with Simon Serna and Médéric De Watteville. He is also developing two feature films, Mystik, produced by Five Dogs and co-written with Raphaël Quenard and Guillaume Scaillet, and also To bled or not to bled, part of the Groupe Ouest Annual Selection, co-written with Margaux Dieudonne and Simon Serna.
To bled or not to bled
Sélection Annuelle 2022
In his thirties, DALI, a Frenchman of Algerian origin, joins his retired parents in a village in Kabylie. He wants to live the Algerian dream: to start a business and get married, according to his parents wish. But his encounter with RAÏSSA (26), a young Algerian woman with dark skin, of Tuareg origin and willing to do anything to cross the Mediterranean, will turn his plans upside-down.
Amidst sheep fights, fraudulent subsidies and youth movements for freedom, an essential question arises: to leave or to stay? To bled or not to bled?
