Houda Benyamina & Romain Compingt at the Quinzaine
and 3 authors from the international workshops
in the Official Selection

Divines (formerly Bâtarde – Illegitimate child) of Houda Benyamina – co-written with Romain Compingt – will be presented at 2016 Cannes Film Festival within the Directors’ Fortnight selection (French: Quinzaine des Réalisateurs). The Directors’ Fortnight is an independent section held in parallel to Cannes Film Festival.

In 2013, Houda and Romain worked on their script within Groupe Ouest Yearly Selection programme, coached by Marcel Beaulieu, Yann Apperry and Julien Lilti, all of them consultants at Groupe Ouest. It was pleasant to see a real complicity rising between Uda and Romain during the weeks of the residential workshops in Brignogan-Plages (Brittany). As a natural reward, by the end of the year 2013, Uda and Romain were awarded the Next Century Prize for their script at Dubai International Film Festival.

Divines is the story of Dounia, inhabited by the thirst for power and success, in a ghetto where traffics are mixed with religion. Supported by Maimouna, her best friend, she is going to follow Rebecca’s tracks, a respected drug dealer. But her meeting with Djigui, a young dancer very sensual – and therefore disturbing – is going to upset her everyday life.

The shooting took place in 2015 (from June 1st to August 5) in Paris region. Oulaya Amamra, Majdouline Idrissi, Déborah Lukumuena and Kévin Mischel are the main actors of the film.

Divines is produced by Marc-Benoît Créancier for Easy Tiger, and is supported by the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée – National Centre for Cinema and Moving images, Diaphana (distributor), Paris region (Ile-de-France), Sofica Cofinova and France 2.

Bravo Houda, bravo Romain, bravo Marc-Benoît, we are very happy of this selection, beautiful reward for all the team!

But also… in Cannes Festival Official Selection, three authors

They came to Brignogan-Plages (Brittany) within the framework of the international workshops with the TorinoFilmLab –  Script&Pitch programme – and they will be in the Cannes Festival Official Selection – Un Certain Regard :
