The first clapperboard is due to slam in April for The Room, Christian Volckman‘s second feature film developed within the framework of the 2012 Annual Selection. The shoot will continue until mid-May in Belgium and Luxembourg.
Christian Volckman was known with his short film Maaz (1999), and then with his feature film Renaissance, victorious at Annecy in 2006, screened at festivals like Toronto, nominated for the Louis-Delluc Prize for Best Debut Film.
Toplining The Room are French actress of Ukrainian descent Olga Kurylenko and Belgium’s Kevin Janssens. This intimate thriller, cowritten with Eric Forestier, is focused on Kate and Matt, a couple in their early thirties, who are in search of some authenticity in their lives. The young couple decides to leave the city behind, buy a big house in the middle of nowhere and renovate it. Shortly after they move, they discover a strange, hidden room that is unlike the others, and which is capable of fulfilling all their desires. Their new life becomes a veritable fairy tale. Kate and Matt give in to all of the temptations that the Room offers them. Money and champagne start flowing like water, but a shadow looms over this apparent Garden of Eden: the Room will bring to light their deepest desire, and will grant them the very thing they have always been waiting for, and which Mother Nature had been denying them… And soon their dream turns into a nightmare…
